Strand 04 · Grades 5–8
Community Data Lab
What does the data say about air, water and health where we live?

What scholars do
Scholars collect environmental and public-health data on their own blocks with handheld sensors and survey work, then clean, chart and interpret it against public data sets. The strand ends with findings shared with community partners — science that belongs to the neighborhood that produced it.
Goals for the year
- Run two community field studies per year with scholar-collected data.
- Build spreadsheet and charting fluency: clean data, choose a chart, state a limitation.
- Deliver findings to at least one community partner or school board audience annually.
